Information Available About the Victims of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident
At least 16 people perished and over 40 were wounded when assailants fired on a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian police are describing as a terrorist attack.
In the latest update, authorities have stated the death toll remains at 16, encompassing one of the suspected gunmen. Moreover, 42 injured people were admitted to hospital.
The deceased are still awaiting publicly named, but police believe their ages span between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Reportedly a father-of-five, he worked as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.
She told the events before the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting started. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
Publicly, the Foreign Minister expressed that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the message read.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
One victim from Israel was among those killed in the incident, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people transported to hospitals, a significant number remain under care, with five in a critical state. The injured comprise two officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Described as a hero, he received gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the attack. He said he listened to “a large number” of shots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
