Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
