Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Issues and Player Response

Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”

He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”

He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”

“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
