Soccer Analyst Chris Sutton Battles Singer Murs in Premier League Predictions
Arsenal's 10-game winning streak came to an end by Sunderland before the international hiatus, however can the English top division frontrunners bounce back against local foes Spurs this Sunday?
"{I believe like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a plan for this game," stated soccer specialist Chris Sutton.
"Frank will try to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling best this season - but Mikel Arteta's side usually still manage to win."
The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this term, versus artificial intelligence, fans and a variety of guests.
In week 12, he faces singer Olly Murs, who is a United fan.
The singer's latest record, the new release, is out on Friday.
Soccer and Parenting Experiences
Olly is a skilled soccer player as well as a successful singer and has been a star of multiple Soccer Aid games down the years - but he is not planning a professional return as a footballer.
"{I actually played in a charity match the other evening for a mate of mine," he explained. "My team was trailing 3-1 when I came off in the second half, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can interpret that what you will!
"I still love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it still hasn't fully recovered. I hope I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too risky for me in my career to do it seriously again.
"Additionally I am 41 now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am preparing for the moment that my daughter or son decides to play instead."
The singer and his spouse Amelia Tank have two children, Madison and Albert, and he is ready to emulate his dad by becoming their coach.
"I will not push football on our kids but I've previously told my wife that if they do get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my manager qualifications - and I will probably be coaching their Saturday football team," he said.
"I watched my relatives play a lot, and I really got into it, and I obviously owned a soccer team for a while too.
"My dad coached with us when I was a child, which is probably where I get it from. He coached our team for two or three years and had great fun with it. That could be the next step for me as well, and I am excited to it!"
Top Division Predictions
Saturday, 22 November
- Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT
The Blues might have to be patient for their star's return from injury but their offense is already stronger with Pedro and Liam Delap both back fit.
In my opinion this game will be quite tight, however. The Clarets are well organised and their sole home defeats so far have been against Liverpool and Arsenal.
This smells of a one-all draw to me, but I am in fact going to go with Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third Premier League win in a row.
The expert's forecast: 1-2
The singer's pick: Chelsea will be too strong. 1-3
Artificial intelligence's outlook: 0-2
- Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT
Bournemouth have lost their past two matches - albeit both of them were away - but they got thoroughly beaten by Villa last time out which shocked me.
In contrast, West Ham secured back-to-back victories before the hiatus and, although both of those fixtures were at their stadium, they appear competitive again.
The Hammers' only away victory this campaign came at Forest in the summer, when their boss Nuno was still Forest coach.
Therefore, what exactly do I predict here - will it be West Ham extending their run under Nuno, or the home side responding?
I will choose the Cherries, because I think what happened against Aston Villa was a anomaly.
The pundit's prediction: 2-0
Olly's outlook: Bournemouth are performing strongly but the visitors have improved under Nuno. 2-2
AI's pick: 1-1
- Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT
The Bees were considered one of the favourites for the drop before the season began, but they have surprised a few people under Keith Andrews and are in good form with three wins in their past four games.
My son advised me to get Brentford striker Igor Thiago in my Fantasy Football squad a few weeks back and, unfortunately, I ignored the advice.
The forward will probably find the net again on Saturday but I am nonetheless not going to select him or back the away side at Amex Stadium.
They have not had great success on the road this season, and Brighton are consistently strong at home. The visitors will attempt to attack on the counter-attack but I feel the home manager's team carry much more of a danger.
The analyst's prediction: 2-1
The singer's prediction: It could be a match where you expect there is going to be a many scores but it actually proves to be rather tight. 1-1
The computer's outcome: 2-1
- Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT
This is a huge fixture for the Cottagers, who have suffered defeat in five of their past six games.
They have got plenty of quality in their team but it nonetheless seems like they could be dragged into a drop zone fight.
Regarding the Black Cats, indeed they are the unexpected success of the top flight season so far.
The away side's display in the two-all draw with the Gunners last time out was superb. We've not witnessed any other team rough up the Gunners like that this season, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.
The sensible thing would be to support the visitors here, because they are obviously capable of disrupting the hosts up too and, the last time they were in west London, they defeated the Blues at the close of October.
However I am not do that. Instead, I truly need to carry on going against the away team with my forecasts. I am taking a lot of responsibility for their good results because they clearly love to prove me wrong.
Considering Fulham's at Craven Cottage record, the only side they have lost to is Arsenal. Their manager's side will be extremely desperate for a good result, so I am going to say they will secure three much-needed points.
The expert's forecast: 1-0
The guest's choice: I'm aware Sunderland are doing well and also that Fulham are on a bad streak... but they have nonetheless been respectable at home this season. 2-0
The algorithm's outlook: 2-0
- Anfield, 15:00 GMT
This is a tough fixture to predict. Liverpool have suffered seven of their last ten games in all competitions, but could they be one of the teams who benefit from the {international break|
