Sovereign to Deliver Personal Address on His Health Battle in Nationwide Address
His Majesty has taped a first-hand account about his journey with cancer, which will be broadcast as part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer drive, run by a leading cancer charity and Channel 4.
Official sources stated the King would reflect on his "path to recovery" as a individual battling cancer, in a televised statement on this Friday at the evening slot.
The address, filmed within a royal residence recently, will highlight the critical nature of preventative health checks to ensure more people catch the illness at an treatable phase.
This represents a rare update on the medical condition of the King, who has been undergoing regular treatment since his condition was announced in early last year. However, it is believed doubtful the King will disclose his particular diagnosis.
Fundraising Primary Goal
The annual charity campaign each year raises funds for clinical trials and patient care and urges people to get screenings to boost the probability of an prompt identification.
The King's candid approach about his health challenge, and living with cancer, has been designed to promote education and to get more people to get tested - and this will be advanced with this unusual personal contribution.
Up until now the King's key philosophy to his cancer has been to continue his schedule, preserving a busy schedule alongside his regular rounds of therapy, and he seems not to have desired to be characterised by his condition.
The past twelve months has seen the Sovereign, taking several international tours, such as visits to Italy and Canada, and hosting the biggest number of inward state visits to the UK for decades, which included the German president last week.
Friday's Evening Programme
The upcoming awareness show on the network, presented by presenters including Davina McCall, Adam Hills and Clare Balding, will urge people not to be scared of getting cancer checks.
The hosts have been personally touched by cancer - Davina McCall said last month she had undergone surgery for breast cancer, while Balding was treated for a thyroid condition in the past. Host Hills has previously mentioned his father, who had one form of cancer and then later another illness.
The broadcast will target the roughly 9m people in the UK who charities estimate are not compliant with national health programmes, with an website to let people determine if they are able for examinations for breast, bowel and cervical cancer.
In an attempt to clarify screenings and illustrate the importance of early diagnosis there will be a live broadcast from hospital departments at two Cambridge hospitals in Cambridge.
"My aim is to remove the anxiety out of preventative tests and demonstrate everyone that they are not alone in this," said one of the hosts.
Available Health Checks
At present in the UK, there are several key national health screening services - for major health concerns - available to certain age groups.
A recently launched preventative initiative is also being slowly rolled out for anyone at high risk of developing the disease, primarily aimed at people in a specific age bracket, who currently smoke or have smoked in the past.
Men may request specific tests, but there is no national programme operational.
Charitable Impact
The charity project, which has generated a significant sum since 2012, is supporting multiple research studies encompassing many patients.
The Monarch, in a message for dignitaries at a gathering for cancer charities in earlier this year, had discussed recognising the "intimidating and at times scary experience" for cancer sufferers and their loved ones.
But he stated his experience of managing cancer had shown him that "the darkest moments of disease can be brightened by the greatest compassion," as he thanked those who supported those receiving treatment.
The Palace has not revealed what kind of cancer the King has, or the therapies he has been given. The King's cancer was detected following he had had a prostate procedure.
