Supporters Call for Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are demanding that a individual who jumped a barrier and seized the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was due to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes videos of him interrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Numerous supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said another message on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted event staff at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed startled when she was touched by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual adaptation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, winning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
