The original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced how corporate owner Unilever stopped the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who established the business alongside his partner, disclosed how he will personally create this new flavor as part of a personal series showcasing issues the company was barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Between Creators and Corporate Owner

The recent development deepens the continuing tension between the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the UK-based consumer goods giant which acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders maintain that Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented their company from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming a Symbol of Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed through social media that he's developing an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name and potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder commented in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for support for the Palestinian people due to its colors, which mirror those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism plus Current Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series will be created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which was first created several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts plus Future Plans

Mr. Cohen indicated how he will develop other ice cream flavors that address concerns that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, after decades of involvement, citing concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined following corporate moves to curb its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated how “My partner has strong compassion and this conflict with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that it can achieve the social mission, the values that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he told journalists.
