The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
